A925 Hemi

Chrysler could play Fords game too...Heres a pic of the A925 DOHC HEMI prototype engine...NASCAR banned them before they were used, but damn they look neat. I guess there was a lot of issues trying to get these dialed in back then as it seems it was referred to as the Doomsday Hemi, but I believe a couple people have created their own version of the A925 within recent years...

  1. The reason it was called the doomsday machine was because of the potential these engines had. It was all about countering Fords single over head cam, hemi combustion chamber style 427. Nascar was afraid that engine developement would simply get out of control, as it would become a war between those with money and those that did not. Much the same as it would be with F1 if there were no regulation.

These engines had the potential to rev to 9000RPM and make at least 625HP. They also made a 4 valve push rod engine incase nascar turned down the double over head cam design, if ford was still going to play the game then Chrysler was more than prepared!

The 5.7 and 6.1 hemi's are based around the A925. Refer to "we were the ramchargers" book for further info :)
